The Perfect Slice

With all the baking I’ve been doing lately, I’ve been very mindful of quantity: trying to go as small as possible for myself, trying not to go too big for my BF, and trying to send just the right amount home with my BF’s brother (for him to enjoy with his girlfriend).

S-XL Cake Mould - PanS-XL Cake Mould - CakeSo, I was delighted to run across this innovative cake pan. The S-XL Cake Mould is a silicone wonder that forms your cake into 15 slices of various sizes, from small to extra-large. At $33, it’s a little pricey, but hey… inventive genius costs money. J

Now, I can bake a luscious, low-cal creation and not worry about cutting a perfectly portioned slice. The mold has already done it for me! There is one teeny, tiny problem, though. How do I determine the calorie count and other nutrition stats? Hmm…

On a side note, I discovered this pan on a blog called Wasted Food. Blogger Jonathan Bloom is writing a book on wasted food in America. He uses the site, which “…examines how we squander so much food”, for research and information sharing. This issue has been on my mind recently. I often toss out food, partly to avoid bingeing on it and partly because it’s a cooking experiment gone awry. Up to now, I’ve figured it was okay to dump the stuff for the “good of the cause”, the cause being my lifestyle change. Lately, I’m not so sure. I plan to explore this site in more detail over the next few weeks.
